What is the origin of Arabica coffee?

Arabic coffee was originated in the region of Ethiopia in East Africa. Accordingly, coffee beans were brought from Ethiopia to Yemen across the Red Sea, and this is where the term "Arabica" originated. From Yemen, coffee spread to other parts of lower Arabia, and also North Africa, Persia, and eventually Europe.

Where is Arabica coffee grown?

Arabica coffee thrives in regions with high altitudes, mild temperatures, and abundant rainfall. Some of the most renowned Arabica coffee-growing regions include:

a. Central and South America: Countries like Colombia, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Guatemala produce a significant portion of the world's Arabica coffee.

b. East Africa: Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and thus one of the biggest producers of coffee. Other countries include Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda.

c. Asia: In Asia, regions like India, Indonesia and China cultivate Arabica coffee beans. They are known for their distinct regional flavours.

How much caffeine is in Arabica coffee?

On average, Arabica coffee contains about 34.1–38.5 grams of caffeine per kilogram of dry coffee. This is also dependent on factors such as the brewing method and the type of roast.

As mentioned earlier, this is lower than the caffeine content found in Robusta coffee, making Arabica a favoured option for those who are sensitive to caffeine.
