Hi, I’m Brad Rideout, co-founder of Saltwinds Coffee.
Years ago, I heard a fascinating maritime story: when coffee first came to Canada, it crossed the Atlantic on wooden sailing ships, naturally exposed to salt-tinged ocean air. Legend says that journey transformed the beans, making the coffee better.
Then shipping changed. Steel ships and faster routes replaced the old ways—and something was lost.
In 2021, my partner, chemist Dr. Laura Richard, set out to bring that coffee back. Through extensive research and experimentation, she recreated those historic sea-voyage conditions, developing our unique Ocean Air coffee.
The result? Coffee that’s smoother, less bitter, and more flavourful—just as it once was.
